Know Your Health Insurance Benefits

Do you know your health insurance benefits? As the end of the year is approaching, it is more important than ever to be familiar with the details of your healthcare plan. From deductibles to the paperwork that goes with it, the new healthcare laws impact many elements that come into play at this time of the year. 1. Bring your current insurance card to every appointment. Many insurance plans require health care providers to verify insurance benefits on each visit.
  2. Even if your plan name is the same, your plan specifics may have changed. Review your deductible, covered medications and durable medical equipment, co-insurance and co-pay parameters before you schedule and appointment. Know if you have a co-pay before you arrive, and be prepared to make a payment at the time of your appointment.
  3. Check your providers – are they still in your insurer’s preferred network? Don’t assume network parameters are the same as last year.
